:: Chlorine Dioxide Generators::
There are a variety of methods for the manufacture of chlorine dioxide and BTC Products has access to generators that can produce chlorine dioxide based on chlorite and chlorate chemistry. Outlined below in detail are our various chlorine dioxide generators.
- OXICAT (CHLORITE) GENERATORS
Two Chemical Systems
We see a need for a “ Small Generator” capable of treating water from 20 m3 /day to 2000 m3/ day. But such a generator needs to be cost effective in terms of size of account and ease of use for the customer. We are in the process of developing our OXICAT Two Chemical system that will cater to this market.
Three Chemical Systems
Chlorine dioxide is an extremely powerful oxidizing agent and microbiocide. Chlorine dioxides basic properties and unique capabilities make it one of the most powerful and environmentally safe biocides employed today.
The OXICAT chlorite based Chlorine Dioxide Generator is built from a block of chemically resistant Schedule 80 PVC plastic. These units utilise the flow of water (at the requisite pressure and flow rate) through an eductor (venturi) which creates a vacuum and sucks up the chemicals into the reaction zone. The reaction zone produces chlorine dioxide instantaneously so it has immediate “ turn-on & turn-off” capability. These generators typically produce a chlorine dioxide solution in the concentration range of 100 ppm to 2500 ppm. Our OXICAT Three Chemical chlorite units typically operate at 2000 ppm concentration ( +/- 200 ppm variance) at a pH of 5-7.

All our OXICAT generators, on our customer sites, produce chlorine dioxide concentrated solution at 2000 ppm and pH 5-7 and we store this solution in a batch tank from which a manifold feeds the solution the pump(s) for the various application point(s) at a plant. (Our biggest system to-date has 9 dosing points off one batch tank). Our OXICAT Three Chemical Chlorine Dioxide Generators capacities run from 1 kg per hour to 50 kg per hour units.
The principal generation reactions that occur in most generators using sodium chlorite reacting with either chlorine gas or the reaction with sodium hypochlorite and hydrochloric acid. These reactions are as follows:
2NaClO2 + Cl2 -----> 2ClO2 + 2 NaCl
2 NaClO2 + NaOCl + HCl -----> 2 ClO2 + 2 NaCl + NaOH
5 NaClO2 + 4 HCl -----> 4 ClO2 + 5 NaCl + 2 H2O
