:: Chlorine Dioxide Generator Comparisons ::
Types Of Generators
Acid / Chlorite System: most manufactures have their own particular
design where in they dose the dilute chlorite and dilute acid into a
reaction chamber which is diluted with water. This reaction chamber has a
contact time of 5-10 minutes depending upon design and capacity.
Therefore, switching on and switching off these units requires meticulous
care in following set procedures to minimise the capture of chlorine
dioxide gas in the reaction chamber particularly during shut down. Most
of these systems operate at minimum 20 000ppm (2%) chlorine dioxide in
the reaction chamber. These systems need elaborate electronics to ensure
that under no circumstances can either the chlorite or acid be dosed
only. If one solution is unavailable for whatever the reason the whole
installation must be switched off.
Chlorite / Hypo / Acid Vacuum System
At BTC Products we use the Chlorite / Hypo / Acid Vacuum System patented
by oxicat Oxidation Technologies, Inc of Odessa, Texas.
(See www.oxicattechnologies.com)
The oxicat generator operates on an educator that is driven by motive
water at a specific pressure and flow rate. This causes a vacuum allowing
the three chemicals to be sucked up into a small reaction chamber prior
to entrance into the throat of the educator where it immediately mixes
with the dilution water. The concentration of chlorine dioxide produced
in these systems is in the range of 100-4000ppm. The reaction chamber in
the oxicat unit has an instantaneous conversion to chlorine dioxide hence
start up and shut down occur within milliseconds. Furthermore this unit
has two major advantages:
- no motive water, therefore, no chemicals can be dosed into the
system
- these units can be designed to be mobile viz they an be taken from
site to site
We have developed the oxicat technology using the Chlorite / Hypo Acid Vacuum System
Capacity rating 1 : 50 turn up / down is possible with these oxicat
generators.
