:: Washing Of Citrus ::
Citrus is washed in dump tanks or high pressure spray units with a
disinfectant in order to inactivate the spores of the post harvest fungal
diseases and to reduce bacterial contamination in wash waters from a food
safety perspective. In many instances the water used is of poor quality
in that it contains suspended solids, organics and is microbiologically
contaminated. These factors complicate the requirements of meeting the
customer's need of high quality fresh produce with no spoilage.
Note: the use of a disinfectant in this application is only to reduce the
inocculum load in the water. The fungicide treatment gives protection
against spoilage over the period of transportation and distribution.
We can offer Harvest Wash WT:
- High efficacy against fungal diseases and bacterial contamination at any pH
- Non corrosive to processing equipment
- Easy to apply and monitor its residual
- Can operate effectively in poor quality water
- Environmentally accepted product with low toxicity
- Cost effective ---- consumption 100 to 300 ml Harvest Wash WT per ton of fruit washed.
Dosage
1 Litre Harvest Wash WT per 1000 litres of water to maintain a residual of 10 - 20 ppm at all times.
We have developed an inexpensive dosing equipment that can dose our products automatically as well as on-line monitoring and control of the residual to 10 -20 ppm.
Other Applications In The Packhouse
Harvest Wash WT can be used as follows:
- As a drench prior to degreening or as a drench in a pre-washing system
- Treatment of hydrocooling water systems
- As a sanitiser for cold rooms, packhouse equipment ( graders, brushes and conveyor belts), bins and boxes, and in cleaning the floors, walls and ceilings in the packhouse.
- In cleaning of the dump tank and / or descaler tank.
- { Firstly, wash the tanks with water to remove all dirt and residues. Clean with high pressure water if possible. Secondly, add 1 litre of an alkaline degreaser per 100 litres of water and use this solution to clean the tanks. Third step would be to rinse off the detergent. Finally, spray with a solution of activated Harvest Wash WT and allow to air dry.( This " activated " solution contains 1 litre Harvest Wash WT with 100 ml Activator which is then diluted into 100 litres of water)}.
- Note: to treat water for fungal and bacterial control we require 1 litre Harvest Wash WT per 1000 litres of water. To use as a sanitiser we need 1 litre Harvest Wash WT per 100 litres of water.
We always give only the dosages of Harvest Wash WT since it is always used in conjunction with the Activator.
