Chlorine dioxide has recently been granted approval for use as an anti-microbial in the production of Organic Foods. It has displaced chlorine as the product of choice through its high efficacy and due to its high profile as one of the most environmentally acceptable anti-microbials currently known to mankind. An example of its efficacy can be seen from the FDA evaluation into the inactivation of E.coli 0157:H7 where HARVEST WASH was shown to be effective at 3 ppm whilst a "free chlorine "residual of 600 ppm is needed to achieve the same results.
